$ HP PhotoSmart 7550 Inkjet Printer

I have enjoyed my PhotoSmart 7550 for many years now, and it has worked for over a decade. However, Microsoft will force me to buy another printer. As I upgraded my PC, to a Quad Core, I also upgraded the OS to Windows Vista 64 Bit. Although Vista thought it had a driver for my printer built in, such was not the case. If you go to the HP support site, they guide you to download the Deskjet 5550 printer driver for limited functionality. No longer does one have the nice HP toolbox to check printer ink levels, or order more ink.

So I upgraded to Windows 7 thinking that would fix it-- wrong! You get the green checkmark that Windows 7 supports the printer, but there is still no driver for the "old" PhotoSmart 7550 printer on the HP software driver download website. So I urge everyone to go buy a new Kodak printer and save money on HP ink.

$ Epson Stylus Photo R280 Photo Printer

PROS: Print quality and speed are very good.

CONS: The horror of high cost ink consumption!

This printer was bundled with a new digital camera I purchased. Now I know why. No one even remotely familiar with its costly ink appetite would knowingly buy it. I was able to get ten 8x10 color photos and about 50 pages of text out of the standard 78-series cartridges before they hit empty. Meaning that each print cost about eight dollars. They would cost even more if you buy individual ink cartridges.

What is even more galling is that, according to a rep at Cartridge World, Epson has designed the cartridges to hold less ink, AND be non-refillable.

Sorry Epson, but I'm going to find a considerably less expensive alternative. Next time I'm offered a "free" Epson printer, I'll pass.

-- HP Officejet 4315 All in One Printer Fax Scanner Copier Q8081A ABA

I have had this all in one for a couple of years and it rarely works as it should. The last straw is that it will no longer recognize the scan function as of this day. All attempts to correct the software through HP channels result in the message "there is no known solution to the issue" Look elsewhere and avoid HP at all costs.

!$ HP Deskjet 460CB Mobile Printer with Battery Included

I bought this printer and used it to print up material away from home twice. Then after I had plugged it in at home there was an explosion when I tried to connect it to the USB port of my computer. Our satellite TV quit working immediately, the input had been blown and had to be replaced. Our 42" Plasma TV (2 years old) quit working a few days later. Strangely the USB port where the explosion occurred seems to be fine. I had enjoyed it until it proved to be very faulty.

$ Epson PictureMate Personal Photo Printer

Of the three photo printers I have owned this is the best. It worked great for around three years and then the print head clogged. During that time I got more than my monies worth out of it. The ink cartridges last much longer than the quantity of paper they come with so I would buy photo paper and print several more prints. I would think that for the quality, quantity, and price there isn't a better printer. I'm planning on sticking with Epson for future photo printers because of the good experience. I would only recommend to take care packing it when you move. It stopped working after I moved. The movers didn't take care in packing it so the cartridge came slightly loose. I tink this might be why the printer clogged. I would recommend occationally printing a print maybe once a month when you aren't going to use it to extend it's use.
