#$ HP D5460 Photosmart Printer

When this printer actually prints, the quality is great, but it is not a robust machine and mechanically it's a poor design with the wraparound paper path exhibiting problems with photo paper - it may decide not to transport it correctly. I currently have 3 Epsons myself and their mechanical design is far superior. If you only print documents with regular paper the D5460 will do the job but you'd be better off buying a low-cost color laser (my HP CP1215 color laser cost $150 on sale which has already paid for itself in terms of cost per page).

If you don't use this printer for a while, you'll experience major problems. Both my wife and a friend bought this printer but didn't use them for about a year. In both cases I replaced all of the cartridges (not a cheap exercise in itself) and had to go through the head cleaning process. In both cases that process used all of the ink in at least one cartridge, but still without cleaning the heads! In addition, my wife's simply refused to print on a DVD, and since it was just over a year old, HP wanted $30 just to consult without, of course, any guarantee that the problem might be solved.

Both printers are now junked to be replaced with Epson - Canon would also be a good choice, but I happen to have used Epson for over a decade with only good experiences.

So, I say, "beware" before buying this printer - there are far superior options such as the Epson Artisan 50.
